Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are structures built to hold back soil, primarily in the form of a pile. These walls can be constructed of timber, interlocking steel, or vinyl panels, and are driven into the ground to the required depth. The soil at the base of the wall anchors the piles. Retaining walls usually have a third of their piles above ground level, while the other two-thirds are below. The piles must resist the bending forces induced by retained materials.

Block & Brick Walls

Block & brick walls are common construction methods that use concrete and reinforced blocks to form a solid wall. Concrete blocks can also be hollow so reinforcing bars can be installed. Stretcher units fit into the primary part of a wall while adjoining units cover the outer edges. Concrete blocks come in many shapes, with sash concrete blocks featuring slots cut into the flat end. Sash concrete blocks are often used around window and door openings. Single corner concrete blocks are "L" shaped with one corner, while double corner brick blocks are designed to be vertical.

Pavers & Patio

There are many different types of pavers and patio stones and choosing the right one can make all the difference in the look of your home. These materials are extremely easy to maintain. Simply sweep off any dirt, and use water and a mild soap to clean them. When pavers begin to crack, they should be replaced. It's also important to seal them once a year to protect against the elements. In addition, if weeds are growing in between the pavers, you can spray them with a natural weed killer that won't harm the porous stone.

Stone Walls & General Stone Work

When building stone walls, you will have many options for the stone you use. Old weathered rock, for example, has a range of sizes, shapes, and textures. Blocky, large rocks are an attractive choice, as they are easy to fit together and can be used in combination with smaller stones to create a natural and attractive look.
